Mr. William Yuhnke, a veteran Buffalo broadcaster and President of Western New York's Liberty Transportation cab Company in a collaboration with Hall of Fame Radio and TV broadcast executive Don Angelo have teamed up on a mission to make radio history for the Niagara Frontier broadcast community. The two men have been working for several months with Washington, DC attorney's, the FCC and consulting broadcast engineers on what some said was impossible. Mr. Yuhnke purchased the 1440 frequency which was occupied by WJJL radio and together with Mr. Angelo they have orchestrated a plan to bring the legendary radio station WEBR home to the people of Western New York. Angelo said the timing was perfect. Once the other station gave up the call letters we immediately filed an application applying to the FCC and it was quickly granted. WEBR will come home and reside at 1440 on the AM radio dial. Since signing on the air in 1924 WEBR has been at two other frequency locations in Buffalo both 1340, 970 and now 1440.
Both Yuhnke and Angelo born in Buffalo said "We are broadcasters, patriots and Christians who love the Buffalo-Niagara Falls region and are dedicated to God, Family, Freedom and Country. Our pledge is to serve our home town community with reliable non-biased, fair and balanced news, information and entertainment. The USA Radio News Network has selected WEBR as their exclusive affiliate for this region to join its 180 network stations across the U.S.. We will also provide our listeners an open mic to express their personal opinions without interruption from a talk show host. They have also signed on with a national weather forecasting service which will update accurate weather for our region every hour. Both men have been friends and colleagues since they worked together in Buffalo radio in the 1970's after Angelo returned home following many years in several other media markets around the country. WEBR will be one of only three other remaining locally owned and operated radio stations left in this region out of over 28 radio stations which are all owned and managed by out of town giant corporations who take much of the local ad revenue out of the economy of this Buffalo-Niagara region.
In tribute to WEBR's tradition of great adult entertainment the new WEBR will feature a vast library of the best music the world has ever known which currently can not be heard and is not available on any other radio station in this region. Derived from "The Great American Song Book" WEBR "The Sound of The City" will feature an all new music format titled "Standards of Excellence". The music comes from the most creative period in the history of modern American music. From Hollywood, Broadway and Tin Pan Alley in New York City. Even young Hollywood producers today are re-discovering these great classic standards now performed for young millennials by the best talent today such as great artists like Michael Buble', Diana Krall, Harry Connick and Nora Jones. "Standards of Excellence" is cool, classy, sophisticated and represents the most prolific period in musical history. It never gets old - it's timeless music. In addition WEBR will be the first radio station in the Buffalo region to feature daily the best recorded music by great local artists.
